Another small way the internet has changed things for me: football preseason magazines.....

From the time I was in 8th grade, the appearance of Street & Smith's College (and later Pro Football) preview magazine was about the highlight of my summer. I bouoght it every year and saved them all. A little later, Anson Mount's Annual Playboy College Football Preview (I think it was in the August issue each year) became a must-read (after an hour or so with the magazine). And the right-before-the-first weekend Sports Illustrated College Football issue would come out. I was always dying to see who SI would rank #1 and what it would say about the Cats. And later Athlon and Lindy's and some others. I would buy all of them.

And now I still get SI in the mail, but don't get jacked about their preview of the football season. And I don't bother buying any of the others (not even Phil Steele) because it seems the information as (1) all the same and (2) stale. All of it is available on the internet.

And speaking of magazines, I saw where Newsweek, which I couldn't live without reading for a couple of decades, is going all digital. How many mags will be around 10 years from now??
